The Tarragona Provincial Council announced on Tuesday the five architectural finalists selected to compete for the renovation of the former Caixa Tarragona building into a modern administrative hub by 2029.

The shortlisted firms include b720 Arquitectura, Ruiz Larrea Arquitectura, Pascual-Ausió-Fernández, L35, and Estudio Alonso Balaguer. These teams have one month to submit their initial designs. The winner will be awarded a 700,000 euro contract to lead the 10.7 million euro project.
The selection features high-profile firms such as L35, known for the Santiago Bernabéu renovation, and Alonso Balaguer, currently involved in the Spotify Camp Nou project. Construction is expected to be tendered in 2027, aiming to transform the Imperial Tarraco site into a workspace for 300 employees.

"The goal is to configure an iconic project that serves as a model for other administrations."

This renovation is part of a broader strategy that will also see the Museum of Modern Art (MAMT) move to the Palau de la Diputació, enhancing the city's cultural landscape.
