Local authorities and environmental platforms have submitted 14,421 formal objections against the proposed high-voltage power line (MAT) connecting Aragon and Tarragona.

The No to MAT Catalonia – Aragon platform reported that the high volume of appeals reflects widespread territorial opposition. Supporters include the county councils of Priorat, Baix Camp, and Terra Alta, alongside agricultural unions and local wine appellations.
The project by Red Eléctrica aims to replace the existing line to la Secuita with a new infrastructure that triples current power capacity. The 180-kilometer route would feature towers up to 55 meters tall, affecting 28 municipalities across the region.

"This sends a very clear message to Red Eléctrica and the Government. We do not want a reformulation; we want the project declared void."

Critics warn of the environmental impact on the future Prades Mountains Natural Park, the loss of farmland, and potential health risks associated with the new high-voltage infrastructure.
