The Tarragona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya have terminated the contract for the restoration of the Tarraco Walls at Baixada del Roser this February.

The company Solvetia SL requested a budget increase of over 30% on the original 255,193 euro contract. Authorities decided to cancel the agreement and restart the bidding process to ensure financial transparency and avoid future legal issues regarding the project's costs.
The project, originally drafted in 2020, suffered from outdated pricing due to global inflation and supply chain issues. The planned works involve structural repairs on a 263-meter section of the ancient Roman fortification, including the replacement of old concrete beams and the cleaning of interior spaces.
This new setback adds at least another year of delay to a project that has been pending since 2018. The final goal remains to open the historic walkway to the public once the structural integrity of the UNESCO World Heritage site is secured.
