Sexual offenses and drug trafficking rise in Tarragona in 2025

Overall crime in the city dropped by 3.4% despite a worrying increase in sexual assaults and vehicle thefts.

The city of Tarragona closed 2025 with a 3.4% overall decrease in crime, although offenses against sexual freedom rose by 44.1% during the period.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, total criminal offenses in the city fell from 9,744 to 9,318. Despite this positive trend, sexual crimes increased from 68 to 98 cases, while other related offenses nearly doubled, showing a 97.1% spike.
Drug trafficking also saw a 30.8% increase, reaching 68 reported incidents. Authorities link this rise to intensified Police pressure and operations. Additionally, vehicle thefts grew by 10.6% compared to the previous year.
On a positive note, burglaries in homes dropped by 35.1%, and thefts decreased by 9.4%. Regarding the most serious crimes, Tarragona recorded zero murders in 2025, down from three cases in the previous year.
