Catalan farmers conducted a slow march with about thirty tractors through downtown Tarragona on Sunday, January 11, sustaining the protest against the EU-Mercosur agreement.

The mobilization, marking the fourth day of protests, aims to denounce the European Union agreement with Mercosur countries, which allows tariff-free trade with South America. Demonstrators reached central Tarragona around 12 PM, passing through the Plaça de la Imperial Tàrraco and the Rambla Nova.
During the route, the farmers delivered several speeches to explain their demands for changes to the agreement and greater involvement from the Govern (Catalan Government). After the march, the thirty tractors returned to the blockade on the A-27, accessing the port of Tarragona, where they planned to spend their final night of protest.

"We already left last year, on February 10; this time we will leave with our heads held high, either because we have achieved something or because they come and beat us, but we will leave proud to have held out for as many days as necessary."

This morning, farmers and the Govern held telephone conversations, although no firm commitment was reached. The protesters, who also maintain blockades on the AP-7 in Empordà and the C-16 in Berguedà, warn that they have no intention of calling off the protests and that there could be more if negotiations do not advance.
As a gesture towards the public, farmers in Alt Empordà decided to temporarily open the N-II stretch until three in the afternoon to allow passage for people wishing to support the protest.
