The Ministry of Culture has officially confirmed that the Tarragona State Public Library will relocate to the Tabacalera complex, occupying a central space of 10,000 square meters.

The agreement between the Spanish Government, Tarragona City Council, and the Generalitat concludes years of negotiations. The project involves a 20 million euro investment to renovate the historic building, which will quadruple the library's current size.
The new facility will be managed by the Generalitat once completed. Meanwhile, the current library building on Fortuny Street will be transferred to the local council to serve as a municipal library.
