The city of Tarragona welcomed 761,000 visitors to its historical monuments in 2025, marking a significant 41% increase compared to the previous year, according to official data released this Wednesday.

The Roman Circus and the Amphitheatre remained the most popular sites, drawing over 400,000 people combined. Local authorities attributed this growth to the 25th anniversary of Tàrraco's status as a UNESCO World Heritage site and the success of the Tàrraco Viva historical reenactment festival held in April and May.

"2026 will be the year of the amphitheatre."

Nacho García · Heritage Councilor
Investment in local heritage reached 5 million euros last year. Most of these funds were allocated to the Fòrum de la Colònia project, which is expected to be completed by Summer 2026. The project faced slight delays due to additional archaeological excavations required by regional authorities.
Looking ahead, the city will establish the Roman Heritage Consortium to streamline management between local and regional governments. A new 500,000 euro investment plan for the Amphitheatre will focus on structural conservation and improving visitor access at the Triumphalis Gate.
