Top architects compete to redesign former Caixa Tarragona headquarters

Firms behind Camp Nou and Bernabéu stadiums are finalists for the 10.7 million euro renovation project.

The Diputació de Tarragona has shortlisted five world-class architecture firms to lead the renovation of the former Caixa Tarragona building at Plaça Imperial Tarraco.

The finalists include studios responsible for major projects such as the Spotify Camp Nou, the Santiago Bernabéu, and the la Sagrera station in Barcelona. The selected firms are b720 Arquitectura, Ruiz Larrea, Pascual-Ausió-Fernández, L35 Arquitectos, and Alonso Balaguer.

The 10.7 million euro project aims to modernize the 7,000-square-meter facility, which has been vacant for over a decade. Sustainability is a key factor, with the goal of achieving near-zero energy consumption. Construction is slated to begin in late 2027, with completion expected by 2029.
