The Vila-seca City Council presented this Wednesday the start of the drafting process for the new Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM) to guide the town's future expansion.

Lead planner Sebastià Jornet explained that the current framework, approved in 1993, is now exhausted. He warned that without an update, the municipality would run out of space for new housing projects and economic activities in the near future.

"We are working on a production scenario of about 7 homes per 1,000 inhabitants; that is a fairly high speed."

Initial diagnostics regarding heritage, mobility, and the environment have been completed over the last nine months. The project is now entering the preliminary planning stage, with final approval expected within three to four years.
Mayor Pere Segura emphasized the importance of the future Intermodal station, calling for improved connectivity. A public participation process is already underway, with over 9,000 information leaflets distributed to local households.
