The Diputació de Tarragona has announced an extraordinary injection of 15 million euros for local councils within its demarcation to address increased current expenses, aiming to mitigate the economic effects of the war in the Middle East.
This measure is part of the ImpulsDipta Plan 2024-2027, a municipal cooperation initiative that, with this new contribution, raises its total budget to 177 million euros for the four-year period. The primary goal is to support local administrations facing generalized price increases.
The additional funds, sourced from the 2025 budget surplus, will be distributed among all municipalities and decentralized municipal entities in the Tarragona demarcation. These resources can cover personnel expenses, energy supplies (electricity and gas), maintenance of municipal facilities, and financial expenses, as outlined in chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the budgets.
The ImpulsDipta Plan already included a specific program for financing current expenses. During 2024 and 2025, 16.5 million euros have already been allocated for this purpose, with an additional 20.7 million euros projected for 2026 and 2027. In total, the plan will mobilize over 52 million euros for municipal current expenses over four years, prioritizing smaller and less populated municipalities.
