The T-314 road, connecting Cambrils and Reus, has been identified for the second consecutive year as the section with the highest accident risk in Catalonia and the Tarragona region, according to the latest RACC report.

This conclusion comes from the 22nd edition of the 'Road Network Risk Map by RACC', presented on Tuesday, April 14. The study highlights an 11.5% increase in serious and fatal accidents on Tarragona's road network during the 2022-2024 triennium, while overall mobility only grew by 5.6%, resulting in an almost 5% increase in accident risk.
Another critical point is the T-11, at the intersection between Tarragona and Reus, which concentrates the highest number of serious accidents. The report also emphasizes that the risk of suffering a fatal or serious accident on a conventional road is four times higher than on a dual carriageway.
Trucks are significantly involved in accidents, accounting for 41.7% of serious accidents on the AP-7 in the Tarragona and Ebro regions, even though heavy vehicles only represent 25.9% of the total traffic on this highway. The highest concentration of heavy vehicles is found on the N-340, on the Torredembarra bypass. Furthermore, motorcycles and mopeds are involved in 35% of accidents with fatalities or injuries.

"It would be better if mobility increased or if mobility increased more than accident rates, this has not happened, and therefore, it is a small piece of bad news."

Cristian Bardají · Director of Mobility Area at RACC
The study, which analyzed 1,213.5 kilometers of roads (44% of the region's road network), considered 97 accidents with fatalities or serious injuries between 2022 and 2024. Of these, 25 were fatal, with 30 people dead, and 72 were serious, with 97 seriously injured. The RACC's goal is to halve the 44 fatalities recorded in 2019 on the region's roads by 2030.
The regions of Baix Camp, Tarragonès, and Baix Penedès concentrate 80% of the sections with the highest risk. 21% of the kilometers of the road network in Tarragona and the Terres de l'Ebre present a high or very high risk, an increase of 10% compared to the previous triennium. Terra Alta and Baix Ebre are the regions with the most high-risk sections (64% and 40% respectively), while Conca de Barberà, Montsià, Priorat, and Ribera d'Ebre do not register sections with these levels.
In addition to the T-314, other sections with high risk include the TP-7225 between Reus and El Morell, and the C-37 between Valls and Pont de l'Armentera. However, there is also good news, with zero-risk sections on the N-340 between L'Ametlla de Mar and L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, and on the TV-3046 between the Port of Tarragona and the Salou lighthouse.
