By 8:00 PM, a total of 180,000 vehicles had returned to the area, representing 31% of the 590,000 expected by midnight on Easter Monday, a public holiday in Catalonia. Despite a 7% increase in mobility compared to the previous year, the total length of traffic jams decreased by 69%, from 192 km in 2025 to 58 km this Sunday.
The most affected points in Tarragona were the AP-7 between Sant Jaume dels Domenys and El Vendrell, with nine kilometers of queues, and the C-31 near Salou and the Costa Daurada, where 10 kilometers of traffic jams were recorded during peak hours. These congestions are common after holiday periods, especially after an Easter marked by good weather and high tourist occupancy.
The special traffic operation, coordinated by the Mossos d’Esquadra, involved 1,669 officers deployed on main and secondary roads. They carried out 1,038 controls for speed, alcohol, drugs, and distractions, in addition to surveillance with ten mobile radars and two helicopters flying over the busiest sections.
The SCT anticipates that up to 270,000 vehicles will return to the Barcelona metropolitan area this Monday, maintaining pressure on the road network. However, the traffic distribution in Tarragona allowed the retentions to be more localized and manageable compared to previous years.
