The Grup de Recerques de les Terres de Ponent (GRTP) began its 50th-anniversary celebrations yesterday in Bellpuig, granting the Athanàgia Award 2025 to founders Jaume Massana and Àgueda Busto for their pioneering work.

The annual assembly of the GRTP held in Bellpuig served as the starting point for the fiftieth-anniversary commemorations. The presentation of the Athanàgia Award 2025 ex aequo to Massana and Busto was a tribute to the project's origins, which began in this same locality half a century ago.

"50 years ago we were born here, in the library, driven by Father Joan Camps, who was then the vicar of Bellpuig and a great cultural activist committed to the language and the country."

Miquel Torres · President of the GRTP
In the late sixties and early seventies, Father Joan Camps, the vicar of Bellpuig, transformed the local library into a hub of cultural dynamism. A group of young scholars gathered around him, including Jaume Massana, the group's first leader, and Àgueda Busto, an essential figure in the organization, who collaborated on recovering the historical heritage of Ponent.
During the assembly, three new publications were also presented: Cròniques d’una ciutat, by Josep Castellà; Mas d’en Colom, un hospital militar, by Jaume Ramon Solé, and Documents notarials del canal d’Urgell, by Josep Maria Llobet. President Miquel Torres announced that the commemorative program will extend throughout 2026, with events planned at the Arxiu Comarcal de l’Urgell in Tàrrega and in Verdú.
