Politician Rosa Maria Perelló, representing Junts, was inaugurated this Wednesday as the new mayor of Tàrrega after a successful no-confidence motion against Alba Pijuan in Urgell.

The leadership change in the capital of Urgell took place during an extraordinary plenary session where Junts (8 councillors) and CUP (3 councillors) secured an absolute majority. The vote ended with 11 in favor of the change and 6 against from ERC and PSC.
This political shift follows the previous mayor's loss of a confidence vote on February 25th. That vote, linked to the 2026 budget, signaled the upcoming change in the local government's structure.
The session was attended by prominent figures such as Oriol Junqueras, Jordi Turull, and Laura Borràs. Rosa Maria Perelló, who previously served as mayor between 2011 and 2019, begins a new term that will last until the end of the current mandate.
