The traditional Tree Festival in Tàrrega took place yesterday at Sant Eloi Park, where an oak tree was planted to express gratitude for the contributions of individuals and entities to the park's development.

The event, organized by the Friends of the Tree Association and the Tàrrega City Council, brought together residents and collaborators in the Plaça de les Alsines. This initiative aims to acknowledge the work of all those who, over the years, have improved the park through donations and various contributions.

"This campaign has made citizens feel more rooted in the park."

Roser Sala · Spokesperson for the Friends of the Tree Association
Roser Sala, spokesperson for the association, highlighted that the Friends of the Tree now have 600 members. She also emphasized the success of the tree adoption campaign, launched in 2022, which has led to the planting of 160 new specimens. Several godparents actively participated in the celebration and the public recognition of their involvement.
The chosen oak tree symbolizes the connection to the park. Sala explained that it is a resilient, native, and slow-growing tree, highly representative of the Mediterranean landscape, with a trajectory similar to that of the park and the association itself.
Furthermore, Sala announced that on April 25, coinciding with the assembly and members' day, an audio guide will be presented. This tool will allow visitors to explore different areas of the park with comments accessible via mobile phone through the Friends of the Tree website. The project will compile the knowledge of former president Jaume Aligué, considered one of Sant Eloi's leading experts. The day's activities included a popular lunch of toasted bread with herring and the screening of the documentary Sant Eloi, el paradís inventat.
