Utility giant Endesa has concluded a 360,000 euro technological overhaul at the Carretera substation in the Segle XX neighborhood of Terrassa this March.

The project focused on renewing the 25 kV medium-voltage park. Previous outdoor equipment has been replaced by state-of-the-art shielded cells installed inside the building. This move protects the infrastructure from environmental factors such as humidity and pollution in Terrassa.
The new GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) units offer increased robustness and operational safety. According to the company, this technology minimizes maintenance needs and ensures that service inspections no longer require temporary power outages for local residents.
Furthermore, the substation's transformers have been integrated into a digital remote-control system. This allows Endesa's control center to monitor the grid 24/7 and automatically reconfigure power lines in the event of an incident, reducing recovery times.
