Plaça del Gas in Terrassa has commenced repair works this June to address recurring sinkholes detected since its opening, with a budget exceeding 800,000 euros.

The Plaça del Gas, located in the Segle XX neighborhood of Terrassa, began definitive repair works this June to resolve the sinkhole problems that have affected the urban space since its opening. These operations, expected to last approximately five months, aim to ensure the public space's complete stability.
The detected settlements, which have prevented continuous use of the square, alerted residents late last year, particularly in the area of the ping-pong tables. The technical proposal, developed by the company Berrysar SL, involves injecting expansive resins into the subsoil. This method seeks to compact the ground to prevent future deformations, using machinery that minimizes disruption to the public space through controlled drilling.
The supervision of the works will be twofold. Firstly, the developer, Metrovacesa, will conduct topographical surveys during the first year after the work is completed. Secondly, the Terrassa City Council will also carry out its own supervision to ensure the results.
The Councilor for Public Works, Montserrat Alba, recalled that the works are privately promoted, and therefore, the developer has undertaken the analysis of the causes and the execution of the repairs. The project has an execution budget of 807,548.65 euros (VAT included).
