Junts Member of Parliament Marta Madrenas visited Sabadell this Thursday to outline a legal reform designed to tackle impunity for petty crimes and persistent theft in Catalonia.

During the event in Sabadell, Madrenas highlighted that out of 520,000 crimes recorded last year in Catalonia, approximately 200,000 were thefts. She argued that current laws often resulted in mere fines, leaving judges without the necessary tools to deter repeat offenders.

"Judges did not have the tools to do anything else."

The reform will allow prison sentences for individuals with three previous convictions for theft, regardless of the stolen amount. Additionally, the plan includes doubling the number of territorial judges and granting local councils the power to support victims in court proceedings.
