Emergency services received a report about a hole in the sidewalk that required inspection. A unit from the Bombers de la Generalitat de Catalunya and officers from the Policia Municipal de Terrassa were dispatched to the scene.
Official sources have confirmed that the sinkhole may have been caused by ongoing construction work in a local business on the same street. The municipal government indicated that the perforation
“"would have been caused by private construction works"
likely during the process of connecting utilities.
Although the hole appeared on the sidewalk, it was decided to completely close Gutenberg Street to traffic due to the possibility that the sinkhole could affect the road surface. Policia Municipal officers have cordoned off the area, and the Public Works services of Terrassa City Council have installed fences and luminous signs to prevent vehicle access. Pedestrians, however, can still use the sidewalk, even the affected section, which has been protected with metal plates.
Terrassa City Council has reported that, as of Wednesday afternoon, it is unknown when traffic will be able to resume.
It is worth noting that last April, in the Ca n’Aurell neighborhood, another hole appeared in the pavement of Torrella Street, near the intersection with Àngel Sallent Avenue. On that occasion, it was determined that the incident was related to the sewage system.
