Tomàs Torralbo, a student at the Torre del Palau institute in Terrassa, has secured one of the highest scores in this year's PAU exams with a 9.80, positioning him among the top-performing students in Catalonia. The highest mark in this examination session was 9.9, achieved by Laura Tallada from Banyoles.
In addition to Torralbo, three other students achieved the same score of 9.8: Martina Gutiérrez from Sabadell, Enric Sánchez from Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, and Joan Torrecillas from Sant Cugat del Vallès.
“"I'm genuinely amazed. The mathematics exam, for instance, went well, but I never expected a 10"
Speaking to the Agència Catalana de Notícies (ACN), Torralbo expressed his surprise at the score, although he admitted to expecting a good result. He attributed his success to "consistent work" and "not leaving everything until the last minute," stating that "if you've worked throughout the course, for the PAU you just need to review."
The student from Terrassa drew a parallel with his mother's score, who is of Romanian origin and achieved a 9.90 in Sibiu, remarking, "I've had a good role model." Torralbo confirmed he will pursue a double degree in Physics and Mathematics at the UAB, with aspirations for a future master's degree focused on research.
Finally, Torralbo took the opportunity to advocate for the quality of public education, asserting that it "works" and is "synonymous with quality and must be cared for," placing it on par with private and subsidized education.
