This unique proposal will be officially presented this Monday, May 25th, at an open event for citizens taking place at six in the evening at the Biblioteca del Districte 6 (Sant Pere Nord). The project's initiators will explain the details of the initiative and the participation needs. The call is particularly aimed at individuals with a passion for photography and nature, with the main requirement being a mobile phone and a willingness to explore the city.
The project, supported by the Ajuntament de Terrassa and the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa, aims to showcase the "guests of the insect hotels" installed in various parts of the city. These habitats, designed to support urban wildlife, are located in places such as Plaça de Ricard Camí, Casa Alegre de Sagrera, Parc de Sant Jordi, the carretera de Matadepera, places de les Magnòlies, several areas of Parc de Vallparadís, avinguda de Can Jofresa, the hort de les esglésies de Sant Pere, the camp del Roure, the Parc del Nord, or carrer Salmerón. In total, there are approximately forty installations, some located outside the urban center such as Can Carbonell or the roundabout of Bellots.
The primary objective is to create a network of green spaces that encourage the proliferation of beneficial insects and enhance urban biodiversity. Insect hotels are crucial for the pollination process and help protect species like bees and ladybugs, which have declined due to the use of pesticides and habitat loss. These artificial structures serve as protected refuges for egg-laying and contribute to restoring the city's natural balance, primarily using recycled wood.
In addition to their ecological function, these insect hotels also serve an educational purpose, hosting visits from students of educational centers to learn firsthand about local biodiversity.
