The new model, presented on October 20 at an informational meeting at the Casa de la Vila, will gradually extend to other areas of the municipality and other waste fractions, while the existing commercial cardboard collection will continue. The aim is to increase selective collection rates, currently stagnant, and reduce pressure on public bins.
The first phase, starting on November 9, will focus on collecting organic waste, as well as packaging, paper, cardboard, and residual waste, for establishments generating over 120 liters weekly. The service will gradually expand to other fractions and all commercial establishments, schools, and other facilities considered large waste generators.
This project, part of the municipal program «Mira per tu, per tothom» (Look out for yourself, for everyone), continues the advisory work initiated in June to understand each business's needs. The President of the Services Area, Dámaris Sánchez, highlighted that the new model will allow collection to be adapted to the type and volume of waste, improve separation, and contribute to better overall waste management.
Information teams will visit businesses starting October 26 to explain the system, provide personalized schedules, and deliver new bins. From October 28, bin linkage will be completed, and support will be offered for a mobile application for consultations and incident reporting. During the initial phase, no sanctions will be applied, prioritizing educational and informational efforts.
