The platform, which has already collected over 5,000 signatures in Cerdanyola, presented its demand, considering the hospital's construction "a debt we owe to the area." Laguna highlighted that municipalities like Cerdanyola and Ripollet are the epicenter of asbestosis due to the malpractice of the Uralita factory, increasing the urgency for quality healthcare services.
“"We want the Commission to follow up as we request, and we do not want a brick-and-mortar hospital."
In addition to the hospital, the platform expressed concern about the low quality of Primary Care, demanding that 25% of the Department of Health budget be allocated to it to ensure proper service. Laguna reiterated to the deputies that the hospital "is not a luxury; it is an emergency," as residents of Montcada i Reixac must travel to Vall d'Hebron and the rest to Parc Taulí in Sabadell, with the resulting waiting list issues.
The parliamentary groups showed various positions. The PSC deputy, David González, emphasized the hospital's importance and affirmed that "this hospital will be built" because it is a priority for the Government of the Generalitat. ERC, through Juli Fernández, committed to fighting for the facility to become a reality, while David Cid of the Comuns requested a clear timeline, stressing the need for a "stronger and larger" healthcare system.
“"This hospital will be built because it is a necessity and a priority for the Government of the Generalitat."
The CUP, with Xavier Pellicer, committed to following up on the platform's request and agreed that the hospital must be "100% public in its management." Junts, through Jordi Fàbrega, considered Ernest Lluch a necessity, accusing the ICS of failing to do its job. For its part, the PP defended public-private management, while Maria Garcia Fuster of Vox was highly critical of Catalan healthcare management.
Laguna gave a positive assessment of the commission, as they succeeded in highlighting the demand for the hospital and the recovery of Primary Care. The platform will continue collecting signatures, and the Cerdanyola City Council has committed to convening the health council and creating the asbestos table. Institutions were also asked to plan solutions for the homelessness issue on the land where the hospital is intended to be built.
