The Sabadell City Council has begun planting 1,008 trees and 3,500 shrub plants in nine green areas of the city, with an investment of 471,100 euros, moving closer to the goal of 50,000 trees by the summer of 2027.

This massive intervention covers an area close to 32,000 square meters and is crucial for the local strategy to enhance green spaces. The initiative is part of the municipal Government's commitment to reach the figure of 50,000 tree specimens in the city, excluding the forest belt, before the municipal elections in the summer of 2027.

"We want to leave behind grey urbanism. In an avenue with trees, the temperature can drop up to six degrees."

Marta Farrés · Mayor of Sabadell
The planting is carried out during the winter, considered the best time to favor proper rooting. Work began at the Parc Central del Vallès and will continue on Pablo Iglesias Avenue next week. Subsequently, action will be taken in the Taulí park, Catalunya park, the Poblenou forest, and other key areas. The City Council expects to complete the operation by the end of February.
The chosen species are mostly native to the Vallès plain or the Mediterranean area, such as holm oak, oak, or pine. These trees have been selected for being resistant to drought and extreme temperatures, requiring little water, and having low allergenic potential. The strategy also involves not planting new plane trees in new plantations, seeking trees that generate shade and contribute to the sustainable management of urban greenery.
