Thousands of residents in Sant Cugat del Vallès celebrated the Three Kings Parade on January 5, an event overshadowed by controversy in Valldoreix and the approval of a technical report on the potential annexation of Bellaterra.

The Three Kings Parade in Sant Cugat began on the afternoon of January 5 on Gràcia Avenue, with a new star leading the procession. The neighborhoods of Mira-sol, la Floresta, les Planes, and Valldoreix also held their own parades. However, the celebration in Valldoreix generated strong controversy when King Gaspar delivered his speech entirely in Spanish. This situation led to rejection and discomfort from political parties ERC, the CUP, and Junts per Sant Cugat.
The other major topic of the week has been the possible annexation of Bellaterra to the municipality of Sant Cugat. The local government, formed by Junts and ERC, approved a technical report considering the incorporation of both Bellaterra and the Can Fatjó dels Aurons sector viable. The document, however, emphasizes that the final decision on territorial integration, including the maintenance of the current EMD, will fall to the Sant Cugat municipal plenary.
This potential annexation has divided the local political spectrum. While the governing parties (Junts and ERC), along with the PP and Vox, are open to the incorporation, the PSC, the CUP, and En Comú Podem have publicly opposed it, marking a clear line of debate on the territorial future of the area.
In the economic sphere, the news also included the visit of the internationally renowned Catalan economist Xavier Sala i Martín to Sant Cugat. Sala i Martín gave a conference at the Trade Center, organized by the Aula d’Extensió Universitària per a la Gent Gran, where he addressed the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
