The Sant Cugat del Vallès City Council confirmed that the Aplec de Sant Medir, scheduled for March 3, will not take place at the hermitage due to access restrictions in the Collserola Natural Park caused by African Swine Fever.

The Councillor for Culture, Núria Escamilla, confirmed the impossibility of holding the gathering at the Sant Medir hermitage, located within the Collserola Natural Park. The decision stems from natural environment access restrictions imposed in late November to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The Sant Cugat City Council is looking for alternative spaces to hold some of the traditional activities of the gathering.

This is not the first time the celebration has been affected. In 2021, the gathering had to be suspended due to restrictions arising from the coronavirus pandemic, although private access to the hermitage was permitted.
The Aplec de Sant Medir is a popular gathering traditionally held every March 3. It includes a parade of giants, a pilgrimage to the hermitage, sardana dancing, and performances by traditional culture groups such as the Geganters, Bastoners, and Castellers of Sant Cugat. The central event is the religious service in honour of the co-patron saint.
