Mayor Jordi Ballart and deputy mayors visited the clearing works at the Riera del Palau in Terrassa on Friday to oversee the improvement of hydraulic capacity.

The works are being carried out along a 4.4 kilometer stretch, running from the Pont de les Arts to the confluence with the N-150 and the C-58, near the courts. The main objective of this operation, which began in late December, is to restore the stream's hydraulic capacity to prevent overflows during intense rainfall.
The awarded company, Hulex Gestión Ambiental S.L., is focusing on the elimination of invasive species, primarily the allochthonous cane (Arundo donax), which destabilizes the slopes. In total, 821 m² occupied by this plant will be treated. Furthermore, in critical points such as Can Boada and the court area, rhizomes will be removed and native common reed (Phragmites) will be planted to hinder the regrowth of the invasive species.
This cleaning, which includes the general clearing of over 9,900 m² of scrub and the removal of about seventy trees that reduce the useful section of the stream, costs 43,708.21 euros. The work is fully funded by the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA). This intervention provides continuity to the maintenance tasks carried out in 2023, where the vegetation substitution strategy already proved effective.
This short-term maintenance operation comes just weeks after the Terrassa City Council awarded the drafting of the Master Plan (Pla Director) for the transformation of the streams. While this long-term project, which seeks to renaturalize and integrate the fluvial spaces into the urban fabric, is being defined, periodic cleanings are essential to ensure the safety and functionality of the riverbed.
