This October, the Municipal Archive of Caldes de Montbui presents as its document of the month minutes from a Municipal Plenary session held on July 21, 1861. This historical document established the dates for the Festa Major celebration that have endured to the present day.
The decision made in 1861 is the direct antecedent of the current Capvuitada, which culminates with the Aplec del Remei on the third weekend of October, thus concluding the Festa Major.
Originally, in 1861, the festival in honor of the Santa Majestat was celebrated on the fourth weekend of September, while the Aplec del Remei took place two weeks later, on the second weekend of October.
According to the minutes of July 21, the citizens of Caldes, due to their devotion to Our Lady of Remedio, showed more enthusiasm for the October festival, which resulted in the September celebrations being overshadowed. To find a solution, the City Council convened several property owners and contributors of the town, along with the council members and the parish priest of Santa Maria, in the Chapter House.
Ultimately, it was agreed to move the festival of the Santa Majestat to October, coinciding with the Aplec del Remei. This measure did not lead to the elimination of either festival but rather to the joint celebration of both religious events on the same days.
This resolution from 1861 was the origin of what we now know as the Capvuitada, celebrating the Aplec del Remei on the third weekend of October as the closing of the Festa Major.
It is interesting to note how, in Festa Major programs from the early 20th century, the Aplec del Remei is referred to as the Festa Major, giving it more prominence than the festival itself.
During this year's 2026 Festa Major, the initial activity programs and the 1861 minutes book will be on display at Thermallia, as part of the exhibition dedicated to the Festa Major.
