The railway strategy, which will be implemented in three phases until 2040, aims to reach one million daily trips on the Catalan network. To achieve this, the document includes the addition of 182 new trains and a significant increase in staff, with the hiring of 419 train drivers and 266 conductors.
Regarding the actions planned for the Vallès region, the plan highlights the improvement of reliability and travel times on the R3 line, as well as the introduction of semi-direct trains on the R2 between 2027 and 2028. These measures seek to address long-standing local demands to optimize rail mobility.
The 2040 horizon includes major structural projects, such as the full double-tracking of the R3 and the launch of the R9 orbital line, which will connect Granollers with Terrassa. These actions will be carried out progressively based on resource availability and infrastructure development.
