The main objective of this initiative is to make recycling easier, more accessible, and fairer for all residents. The new system will feature 79 recycling points strategically located across the municipality, each equipped with the necessary five fractions: organic, packaging, paper and cardboard, glass, and residual waste.
This change addresses the need to update the old recycling areas, which had become obsolete and did not always allow for all fractions to be disposed of near homes. The new system will combine smart containers and recycling stations, designed to adapt to the characteristics of an extensive municipality with diverse neighborhoods. Furthermore, measures have been taken to prevent incidents, as the new containers will be designed to prevent wild boars from tipping them over.
Throughout the implementation process, a 24-hour incident support service will be available to resolve any doubts or issues that may arise.
The transition will occur progressively between October 2026 and September 2027. Initially, citizens will be informed about the new system. Subsequently, the new containers will be installed, which can still be used without a key. Following this, the recycling stations will be constructed, with the old containers remaining until the work is completed. Finally, before the new system is activated, residents will receive their personalized access key.
Once the new system is operational, the smart containers and stations will require key access for opening. The City Council has also organized an informative talk at La Sala, at 7 PM, to explain the new model and address questions.
With this new model, the aim is to achieve cleaner and more organized areas, with protected spaces and exclusive-use containers for residents. Additionally, the system will enable a fairer tax, better linked to the amount of waste recycled, and will help meet European recycling targets.
The City Council has set up a channel to collect proposals and report incidents related to the location of recycling points. All messages will be read and responded to within 24 hours, with the goal of adjusting locations before the model change is fully implemented.
