The festival, which ritually opens the Tres Tombs calendar across the country, features several notable novelties this year. On one hand, the Vermut del Dimoni (Devil's Vermouth) is incorporated, and on the other, the route is modified due to construction work on the Sant Francesc wall. This means the blessing of the animals will exceptionally take place at the Capella del Roser.
Sunday, January 11, the main day of the celebration, will feature two significant heritage additions. The first is the participation of the Vilaverd cart (from the Espai del Carro d'Anglesola), deeply linked to the muleteer memory of Valls. This cart, which historically closed the parade, will once again travel through the city streets.
The Tres Tombs of Valls are unique and stand out from the rest, being the earliest to ritually open the annual festive calendar dedicated to Sant Antoni Abat.
The second major novelty is the recovery of the stagecoach belonging to the Societat de Sant Antoni de Valls. This piece, acquired in 1983, stopped parading in the late nineties due to deterioration. After a year of intense restoration, the stagecoach has recovered its dignity and will be fully reincorporated into the celebration.
The vigil and eve activities, on Saturday 10, also gain prominence. Events include the festive parade of the piglet, the Flag parade, the dance of the Mulassa (Mule), and the lighting of the Sant Antoni bonfire. The new Vermut del Dimoni, organized by the Grup de Consum La Bajoca, will take place at the Plaça de les Garrofes at noon.
