The Valls City Council suspended most preliminary events for the 44th Grand Calçotada Festival on Saturday, January 24, due to strong wind and rain, maintaining only the parade of 'capgrossos'.

The adverse weather conditions on Saturday, January 24, forced the cancellation of both the Market and the Calçotada Tastings, as well as other recreational activities planned for the Pati in Valls, such as inflatables and a DJ session.
The only event that was maintained was the parade of the 'capgrossos' (big-heads) organized by the Agrupació Cultural La Pessigolla, which toured the city center. The ten 'capgrossos', representing the ingredients of the calçotada sauce, premiered their dance at Plaça Pere Català i Roca, in front of the Museu Casteller.
Following the parade, the children's story Anem de calçotada (Let's Go for a Calçotada) was presented, featuring the giants Antonet and Angelina from the Colla del Calçot. Guided tours of the anti-aircraft shelter were also maintained and will resume on Sunday.
Looking ahead to Sunday, January 25, the weather situation is expected to improve for the celebration of the 44th Grand Calçotada Festival. Key events include calçot cooking demonstrations, the 34th Valls Calçotada Sauce Contest at Plaça del Blat, and the 40th Calçots Eating Contest at the Pati.
Attendees can purchase tickets for the popular tasting for 15 euros. The package includes 12 cooked calçots, sauce, bread, DO Tarragona wine, an orange, carquinyolis, and a 2-for-1 voucher for the Museu Casteller de Catalunya.
