The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested four individuals in Alt Empordà for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and severe assault of a man in late 2025, which included a ransom demand.

The police operation, which concluded on April 9, led to the arrest of the four men in Figueres and Cabanes. The investigation began following the victim's complaint on February 3, who reported being held captive and assaulted on an agricultural estate in Cabanes between December 8 and 9, 2025.
During the captivity, the kidnappers, aged between 24 and 62, intimidated and assaulted the victim with the aim of obtaining a 60,000 euro ransom. Subsequently, the kidnapped man was transferred to a property in France, near the Belgian border, until his family paid a partial amount.
After his release, the victim continued to receive threatening phone calls demanding the outstanding amount. The investigation, which involved international police cooperation, allowed for the identification of the alleged perpetrators, most of whom resided in France but regularly traveled to Catalonia.
The arrest operation was complex and required the participation of the Special Intervention Group (GEI) and the Regional Operational Resources Area (ARRO). As part of the operation, the estate in Cabanes was searched, and items of interest to the investigation were found. The detainees, some with previous records for public health offenses, were brought before the duty investigating court in Figueres. The investigation remains open, and further arrests are not ruled out.
