The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has confirmed that the 2026 winter season is the rainiest since 1996, driven by a continuous succession of Atlantic fronts and Mediterranean storms.

Significant rainfall was recorded across the territory, notably at the Darnius-Boadella reservoir in Alt Empordà, which saw 591 liters per square meter. In the mountains, Núria registered a historic 144 centimeters of snow, the highest figure in the station's 26-year history.
Climatologists highlight that the season was also unusually warm. High nighttime temperatures in February broke records at 13 different monitoring stations. Experts suggest that the lack of anticyclonic stability prevented typical thermal inversions, keeping minimum temperatures well above average.
