The current meteorological situation is characterized by the persistence of a powerful anticyclone in the Atlantic, off the French coast, and a low-pressure center, named Erminio, located in Italy. This configuration generates a northern wind corridor that directly affects Catalonia and is expected to continue, at least, until next Thursday.
The consequences of these strong winds are already visible in the High Pyrenees, where the Bombers (firefighters) have had to carry out numerous interventions. In Coll de Nargó, the wind caused 14 solar panels to fall from two buildings, in addition to damaging the Dinosfera Museum and knocking down the fence of the football field and the Sant Climent school.
Recorded data confirms the intensity of the phenomenon. In La Seu d'Urgell, on Tuesday, a maximum wind speed of 72 km/h was reached, the fourth highest record from the MeteoSeu observatory. The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Catalan Meteorological Service) reported gusts of 68 km/h at its Bellestar station, 78 km/h in Organyà, and a maximum of 92 km/h at the Cerdanya Aerodrome (Das). Other localities such as Puigcerdà (66 km/h), El Pont de Suert (60 km/h), and Tremp (56 km/h) also registered significant values.
Regarding precipitation, Wednesday is expected to bring very cloudy skies to the Pyrenees, especially on the northern face, with snowfall extending throughout the day from 1,300 meters. In the afternoon and evening, snow could become more widespread in other sectors of the mountain range. The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya has activated warnings for significant accumulations, with more than 20 cm above 1,400 meters and more than 40 cm above 1,700 meters. Although the strong winds will be less intense on Wednesday, wind warnings for the High Pyrenees remain in effect.
