The celebration officially kicked off on Friday with a festive procession and an opening speech that, for the first time, included a sign language interpreter. The Riudecanyes devil troupe also participated in the events.
Activities had to be adapted due to the Plan Alfa, which declared an extreme fire risk in the municipality. Mayor Ricard Pérez explained that "we are all aware that we are in complicated times and that any spark can cause a fire." Consequently, fire elements were suspended in various performances, including the children's procession, the fire run, and the fireworks display.
The festival was unique due to the presence of a delegation from Oliena, a twinned town. During the giant gathering, a giant figure was presented to the Sardinian municipality as part of an intergenerational and intercultural project. Toni Mujal, a master giant maker from Cardona, crafted the figure, which is dressed in traditional Sardinian attire and comes directly from Sardinia.
The program also included a popular dinner, concerts, sports activities, and children's events. The festival will conclude this Monday at 10 PM with 'Brises d’Espunyola', which will be held this year at the Francesc Betriu pavilion due to the forecast of rain.
