More than 50 schools across Catalonia are joining a protest movement to stop organizing overnight field trips starting in the 2026-2027 academic year unless labor conditions improve.

The campaign, titled No decent conditions, no school trips, was started by teachers in the Maresme and Selva regions. They argue that the Department of Education relies too heavily on teacher volunteerism, leading to unsustainable workloads and uncompensated overtime during school excursions.
In Lleida, some schools have already taken action. The Santa Maria de Gardeny school has suspended trips this year, citing a loss of purchasing power and excessive bureaucracy. Similarly, the Joc de la Bola school has indefinitely canceled all activities outside the classroom in solidarity with the movement.
The Catalan Government is currently meeting with unions to address these demands. The goal is to prevent both the boycott of school trips and a general strike scheduled for the week of March 16th to 20th.
