The CCOO union has denounced the dismissal of a delegate at the La Marinada residence in Reus, owned by the Pere Mata Group, citing alleged union persecution, holding a protest on Wednesday, December 17 in Tarragona.

About ten people gathered outside the Territorial Services of the Department of Labor in Tarragona ahead of the pre-trial conciliation hearing. According to CCOO, the company claims the employee was sleeping, while she had stopped working due to a severe migraine attack.

"It is a very complicated situation; we have had to report certain irregularities to the Labor Inspectorate, social services, and health authorities for various reasons."

José Manuel Benítez · Head of Disability Sector CCOO Tarragona
José Manuel Benítez, head of the disability sector for CCOO in Tarragona, stated that the dismissal is a "reprisal" for her union work and previous complaints made by the works council. Benítez detailed that management searched the worker's personal mobile phone without cause and sanctioned her without pay from September 10 until her dismissal in mid-October.

"If they intend to stop us this way, they will not succeed."

Benítez also reported that the twelve hours of rest between shifts were not respected and that the staff at La Marinada are "very afraid" of potential reprisals. The union highlights the precariousness of the sector, which is highly feminized, and the workload due to the company's alleged non-compliance with staff ratios. The trial for this dismissal is scheduled for October 2026.
