The local station LANOVA Ràdio de Reus will celebrate this Good Friday, April 3rd, the tenth anniversary of its live broadcast of the Solemn Agony Function. The broadcast, which will begin at 11:30 AM and last until approximately 3:00 PM, will take place from the Prioral de Sant Pere de Reus, solidifying a tradition that started in 2016.
This initiative was revived by LANOVA Ràdio de Reus as a posthumous tribute to the renowned radio broadcaster Joan Ramon Mestre (1954-2015). Shortly before his passing, Mestre, who was then president of the Associació d'Agrupacions de Setmana Santa de Reus, expressed his wish to re-establish this historic radio narration.
The Agony Function, also known as the Seven Words, is part of the Tres Gràcies ritual, considered the most emblematic event of Reus' Holy Week. This act was declared a National Heritage Festival of Interest in 2010. The broadcast will feature narration by journalist David Fernàndez and Ferran Sugranyes from Carrutxa.
The preaching of the Seven Words occurs after the transfer of the image of the Sant Crist de la Reial Congregació de la Puríssima Sang from its temple to the Prioral de Sant Pere, and precedes its return to the titular church, where the Tres Gràcies are celebrated. The transmission can be followed online via the station's website and is supported by local entities such as Gestiomàtica, El Barato, Llibreria Catòlica, and Construccions i Reformes Toni Tarés.
