The Tarragona Provincial Council, represented by Noemí Llauradó, and the Reus City Council, led by Sandra Guaita, announced this Monday the location of the new auditorium, which will be annexed to the Reus School and Conservatory of Music (CMR).

The new space will be situated in an annex building to the current CMR headquarters on Llovera Street, featuring an independent entrance via Salvador Espriu Street. To make the project feasible, the Provincial Council will need to acquire between two and five adjacent properties, although the purchase of just two would allow the entire project to proceed.

"This facility is more than just an auditorium, as it will serve to solve the lack of space suffered by the School and Conservatory."

Noemí Llauradó · President of the Tarragona Provincial Council
This expansion will allow the consolidation of the 31 existing classrooms, which are currently split between the CMR headquarters on Llovera Street (14 classrooms) and the Reus School of Art and Design (EADR) headquarters on Vent Street (17 classrooms). The goal is to offer a higher quality service to the 367 students from Reus and the surrounding region.
Regarding the purely auditorium function, Llauradó highlighted that it will be a space focused on symphonic music, with a capacity for over 400 seats. Its acoustic characteristics are designed to make it a “reference” auditorium in the territory.
Mayor Sandra Guaita celebrated that the project addresses a citizen demand to prevent students from having to constantly move between locations. Furthermore, she emphasized that the inauguration coincides with the 50th anniversary of the CMR and that the work will revitalize the central area around Salvador Espriu Street.
The timeline projected by the Provincial Council sets the facility's operational start for the 2031-2032 academic year. Preliminary studies and land acquisition will take place during 2026 and 2027, the drafting of the Basic Project in the 2027-2028 academic year, and construction is expected to begin between 2029 and 2030.
