This initiative, promoted by the Centre de Lectura de Reus in collaboration with the Consorci del Teatre Bartrina and the Institut Municipal Reus Cultura, aims to promote contemporary dance and provide a professional projection pathway for artists in the sector. The artistic directors of the Òrbita Awards 2026 are Teresa Aguadé, Juny Cases, and Hector Tarro.
Among the key novelties this year, nine masterclasses will be taught by the jury members, attracting over 140 registered participants. Two choreographic laboratories will also be held, the results of which will be presented at the Saló Noble del Palau Bofarull. Previously, on Monday, February 16, some participants will perform a dance route in shop windows in central Reus, starting at the Reus City Council.
The competition is divided into three main branches. The Amateur Competition, aimed at young people aged six and up, received over 220 choreographies and features more than 315 participants from 22 schools across Catalonia, Spain, and Italy. In the professional sphere, the Professional Choreographic Competition selected eight international proposals out of 28 submitted, and the Performance Competition, which grants the winner participation in the COS 2026 Festival, selected seven out of fifteen received proposals.
The official program kicks off on Friday, February 20, with the choreographic laboratories. Saturday, February 21, will be dedicated to the Amateur Competition and the Professional Choreographic Contest at the Teatre Bartrina. Finally, on Sunday, February 22, the Amateur Competition will conclude, followed by the Closing Gala and the awards ceremony at 5:30 PM.
