The electoral race towards May 2027 has begun in Reus with significant moves within the main political parties. Following a term marked by the historic milestone of having five women as lead candidates in 2023, the political landscape is preparing for a renewal. The PSC, currently governing with ERC and Ara Reus, seeks to maintain stability in light of new polls suggesting a more fragmented city council.
Republican leader Noemí Llauradó has paved the way for changes by announcing she will not run again. Her proposed successor is Daniel Recasens, the current Culture councilor, a move that breaks the female leadership trend in local politics. This step has accelerated the response from Sandra Guaita, who launched the campaign L'alcaldessa als barris to strengthen her connection with citizens.
“"I have the desire and enthusiasm, and I am at my party's disposal."
Meanwhile, other municipal parties face their own uncertainties. While the PP seems to trust Sílvia Virgili, groups like Junts, CUP, or the potential emergence of Aliança Catalana could alter the political balance at Mercadal Square. Political analysis suggests that government fatigue and issues such as immigration or railway services will be central to the upcoming campaign.
