The Reus City Council has started the tender process to transform the area around the Xavier Amorós Library, removing nearly a hundred blue zone parking spaces to create a new social and green space.

The project, which involves a municipal investment of nearly 500,000 euros, foresees the disappearance of almost a hundred blue zone parking spaces located in front of the Xavier Amorós Central Library. The goal is to create a green space of nearly 3,000 square meters and a new square that strengthens the relationship with key buildings such as the Library itself and the Oenological Station.

"The action will allow the creation of a small lung in a densely populated area and will serve to bring more greenery into the city, improve public health, and generate climatically more comfortable spaces."

Sandra Guaita · Mayor of Reus
Currently, the area is a hard space dominated by cement and asphalt. The proposal, which is already in the bidding phase, will transform the environment into an accessible, single-level square, incorporating an outdoor agora. This agora will function as an extension of the Library, prepared to host cultural activities and neighborhood meetings.
The design also prioritizes security, avoiding blind spots and poorly visible areas, especially along routes used by vulnerable groups. Despite the loss of parking, which has raised concerns among entities like Tomb de Reus and the Union of Shopkeepers, Mayor Guaita maintained that mobility studies guarantee nearby parking and that the network will be reinforced with new dissuasive parking areas.
