The Riudecanyes reservoir, located in the Baix Camp region, opened its maintenance floodgates on Thursday, January 29, 2026, releasing water for the first time in six years after reaching maximum capacity.

Following the spectacular recovery of water reserves, the Riudecanyes reservoir experienced a significant moment when, shortly after 8:00 AM, the floodgates were opened. This action, mandatory for maintenance, became a visual spectacle that attracted many local residents.

"It is a maneuver we have to do every year for maintenance, although it had been a long time since we did it with water."

Miquel Àngel Prats · Administrator of the Comunitat de Regants del Pantà de Riudecanyes
The water was released with great pressure, but the impact on the reservoir level was minimal. According to records, the level dropped slightly from 100% to 99.5%. Prats added that the natural overflow system ensures that reaching 100% does not pose any problem.

"It conveys great tranquility to us to see the reservoir in this state."

Ernest Roigé · Mayor of Riudecanyes
The mayor of Riudecanyes, Ernest Roigé, highlighted the importance of this situation, especially considering that the municipality is supplied entirely by the reservoir and suffered various problems with drinking water salubrity during the years of drought.
