The Riudecanyes reservoir in Baix Camp has reached 100% capacity, prompting controlled discharge maneuvers to be carried out this Thursday morning.

The reservoir has registered a total of 5.322 cubic hectometers (hm3) of stored water, reaching a level of 219.5 meters, according to data provided by the Community of Irrigators. Currently, the reservoir is already naturally overflowing, discharging a flow rate of about 0.75 cubic meters per second into the Riudecanyes stream, downstream of the dam.
The discharge maneuvers, involving flows higher than usual, will take place on Thursday between eight and eleven in the morning, through the opening of the dam's bottom drains. It is anticipated that the maximum flow rate could reach 25 cubic meters per second, without risk of the riverbed overflowing or affecting basic services.

After six very complicated years of drought, the fact that the Riudecanyes reservoir has filled up is good news for irrigators who face the coming months with more peace of mind.

The Community of Irrigators communicated the maneuver in accordance with the Pla Inuncat (Flood Plan), informing the Catalonia Operational Coordination Center (CECAT), Hydrology technicians, and the Catalan Water Agency (ACA). Downstream municipalities, including Riudecanyes, Montbrió del Camp, Mont-roig del Camp, and Cambrils, have been notified and advised to keep low points and access points to the stream bed closed.
