The capital of Baix Ebre, Tortosa, has joined the Mapadeball program this academic year, a key initiative of the Catalan Dance Promotion Plan. The project, coordinated through the Xarxa Transversal, involves 11 municipalities, 46 educational centers, and over 2,800 students across Catalonia.
In Tortosa, the 107 participants come from the Dertosa institute (first and second year Baccalaureate students) and the Cristòfol Despuig institute (third year ESO students). Local artist Llibertat Curto is responsible for the artistic direction and adaptation within the centers, collaborating with teachers Maria José Darder, Clàudia Giménez, and Guadalupe Pedret.
“"We are excited to move this project forward, which aligns closely with our model of an educational and cultural city, and also with our goal of having a Tortosa free of discrimination. Mapadeball promotes values such as inclusion, participation, shared creation, and cooperation."
The students will prepare the show UMHLABA ('world' in Zulu), which will be performed in a public event at the Plaça de l'Absis on Friday, May 8. Deputy Mayor Jordi Jordan highlighted that Mapadeball is an educational tool promoted by the Mercat de les Flors aimed at bringing contemporary dance to secondary school students.
