A total of 107 students from Dertosa and Cristòfol Despuig high schools in Tortosa have joined the Mapadeball project, an artistic initiative combining dance and education this school year.
The Mapadeball project, which is part of the Catalan Dance Promotion Plan, has allowed Tortosa to join the Transversal Network, making it one of the 11 Catalan cities developing this program, promoted by the Mercat de les Flors. Participants include students from the first and second years of Baccalaureate at Institut Dertosa and third-year ESO students at Institut Cristòfol Despuig.

"It fully aligns with the model of an educational and cultural city, and fosters values such as inclusion, participation, cooperation, and expression through movement."
The young people will work on creating the show UMHLABA, which means "world" in Zulu, and will be performed openly to the public on May 8 in Plaça de l’Absis. The project is coordinated by choreographers Sílvia Sant Funk and Mònica Muntaner, under the artistic direction and adaptation of the Tortosa artist Llibertat Curto.

"The project brings contemporary dance closer to secondary school students and places Tortosa alongside other cities such as Mataró, Reus, Tarragona, or Lleida."
