Nearly 300 Primary students from Martorell participated in the 2nd Inter-School Chess Day, held last Friday at the Pavelló de Can Cases, concluding the municipal 'Escacs a l’escola' program.

The gathering, jointly organized by the Martorell City Council and the Club d’Escacs Martorell, took place at the Pavelló de Can Cases and served as the closing ceremony for the educational project promoted by the departments of Education and Sports, within the Pla Educatiu d’Entorn framework.
The 'Escacs a l’escola' program has been running for seven years, subsidized by the council, aiming to introduce this discipline to middle-level students during school hours, linking it with subjects like Mathematics. During the first term, a specialized monitor teaches chess in all schools in the municipality.

"This program improves attention, concentration, memory, and numerical mastery, which has a positive impact on academic performance. Furthermore, it promotes school integration, tolerance, respect, and gender equality."

Participants competed using the system known as 'Masnou', which involves three non-eliminatory rounds, emphasizing the playful, social, and community nature of the activity rather than pure competition. Diplomas were awarded to the participating schools at the end of the day in recognition of their commitment.
