The Olesa de Montserrat City Council will launch the new digital identification waste container system starting February 3, 2026, beginning in the Nucli Antic and adjacent neighborhoods.

This new model, designed to improve collection efficiency, requires users to utilize an electronic card or the Residus Olesa application to unlock the containers. Initially, the measure will be applied in the neighborhoods of Nucli Antic, Collet de Sant Joan, La Balconada, and Les Planes, which constitute the first deployment zone.
Each household will receive two identification cards. Access is also possible via the mobile application, which requires prior download, account creation, and Bluetooth activation. While organic waste, packaging, and paper can be deposited any day, the residual waste container (grey) will be limited to two days a week, depending on each family's choice.

The new system seeks to improve the municipality's recycling rates, which currently stand at 38%, far from the European goal of 60% set for 2030.

For sanitary products like diapers, families can request a card reconfiguration at the waste office to access the container without restrictions, a service also extended to households with pets that require it. Simultaneously, residents in Zone 2 (La Central, Poble Sec, and Cal Vicentó) will receive informative letters to collect their cards between February 12 and February 18.
