The town of Olesa de Montserrat is set to begin its annual Passion Play season this March 15th, showcasing a tradition that dates back to 1538.

The performance at the Teatre La Passió lasts just over two hours and involves nearly 1,000 volunteers. This year's production focuses on a contemporary theatrical language while respecting the historical essence of the play, which has been documented for five centuries.

"Today there was that energy we always ask of the actors; saying every word and phrase with meaning."

Xavier Povill · Director
President Pere Quer and Culture Councilor Emma Duran emphasized the community effort behind the event. The 2026 season highlights the technical precision of the cast, capable of clearing the massive Jerusalem scene in just 35 seconds.
